Job summary

Quest Diagnostics Inc. is seeking a Grossing Technician I for the Pompano Beach, FL location.

The role is an entry-level position performing surgical gross examinations of small specimens under supervision, with emphasis on specimen labeling, integrity and accurate description of gross features. The ideal candidate will have 1 year of histology/grossing experience, an associates or bachelor’s degree preferred, and may qualify for licensure where applicable.

Qualifications

• Meets all requirements as outlined in corporate Minimum Qualifications for Personnel Performing Tissue Gross Examinations SOP and 1988 CLIA CFR 493.1489.
• 1 year of histology and/or grossing experience.
• Current state licensure, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for histologic processing.
• Assure appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling.
• Maintain the integrity of the specimen and patient identification.
• Describe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens.
• Dissect surgical specimens and prepare tissues for histologic processing.
• May be trained to perform basic Histology functions (embedding, microtomy, stains, freezing) if qualified.
• Complete all associated paperwork and follow lab procedures.
• Interact with pathologists regarding gross dissection/description activities.
