Job summary

You will help maintain a safe, clean environment and support sales and department goals while upholding our Customer 1st strategy and core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety. Responsibilities include assisting customers, stocking and labeling merchandise, ensuring product freshness, following food safety guidelines, and reporting safety or fraud

Qualifications

• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, subtraction).
• Effective communication skills with customers and team members.
• Retail experience is a plus.
• Second language skills (speaking, reading and/or writing) are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Promote trust and respect among associates.
• Create an environment that makes customers feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions about products.
• Gain and maintain knowledge of products to respond to questions and suggestions.
• Recommend grocery items to customers and inform them of specials.
• Check product quality to ensure freshness; review sell-by dates and take action.
• Label, stock and inventory department merchandise; provide fresh products ordered by customers.
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Display a positive attitude.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
• Reinforce safety programs by following procedures and reporting unsafe conditions.
• Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting issues.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Report safety risks/issues and illegal activity (theft, fraud).
• Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
