Job summary

Bemidji State University invites applications for a Temporary General Maintenance Worker to provide daily cleaning and maintenance services across university facilities. The position supports both residential and academic buildings with responsibilities that include cleaning, minor repairs, and safety compliance.

An offer of employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check conducted through the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of different types of flooring to determine proper maintenance methods.
• Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents to select, apply and dispose of them safely.
• Knowledge of maintenance tools and equipment to perform minor repairs and operate safely.
• Experience keeping simple records and following instructions with limited direction.
• Ability to communicate clearly with customers and colleagues, with courtesy and problem-solving mindset.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and cleaning of facilities, including elevators, kitchens, hallways, restrooms, and offices.
• Clean, vacuum, mop, and maintain floors; strip and wax floors where needed.
• Operate custodial equipment and handle cleaning chemicals safely; report equipment needs to supervisor.
• Ensure labeling and safety procedures for chemical products; wear PPE and follow safety regulations.
• Perform other duties within maintenance worker scope as assigned by supervisor.
