Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a dock employee to transport freight across the dock area to and from trailers, using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck. The role emphasizes safety, documentation accuracy, and teamwork in a fast-paced warehouse setting.

Responsibilities include securing freight inside trailers, recouping damaged freight, assisting customers with freight paperwork, and complying with laws and company policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Prior warehousing, freight handling, and/or forklift experience preferred.
• Hostler/yard mule duties experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week, lift dock plates weighing ~100 pounds, and open trailer doors requiring ~75 pounds of lift force, up to several times per day.

Responsibilities

• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment, including forklift, pallet jack and hand truck.
• Verify documentation matches freight description (type, weight, hazardous materials) using current system.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.
• Perform other duties as required.
