Job summary

FedEx Freight in Maryland seeks a dock worker to transport freight between the dock and trailers, supporting loading and unloading during the 17:00–21:00 shift. Operators use forklifts, pallet jacks and hand trucks to move items safely in a fast-paced setting.

You verify shipment documents against freight details, secure loads with pallets, straps, or rope, and assist customers with freight paperwork while following safety rules and company policies.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Prior warehousing, freight handling and/or forklift experience preferred.
• Hostler/yard mule duties experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week, lift dock plates up to ~100 lbs, and open trailer doors requiring ~75 lbs of lift.

Responsibilities

• Transport freight between dock areas and trailers.
• Operate forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck safely.
• Verify documentation matches freight description.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.
