Job summary

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts is seeking a Facilities Manager for second shift operations responsible for custodial care and maintenance of campus buildings and residences. The role requires supervising staff, coordinating purchases, and delivering weekly reports to the Interim Director.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years in facilities management, familiarity with bargaining environments, and OSHA/HAZMAT safety knowledge.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of and experience with facilities.
• Minimum 5 years in facilities management; supervisory experience in a bargaining environment preferred.
• Knowledge of safety laws (OSHA/EPA/HAZMAT); OSHA 10-hour training preferred.
• Ability to develop, promote and implement plans and proposals.
• Ability to relate to others, and manage, supervise and motivate staff.
• Ability to express oneself professionally in written and oral communication.
• Proficient in computers and database systems for facilities management; inventory control, work orders, and building automation.
• Experience on a residential campus or in a residential environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan the second shift maintenance and custodial care of campus buildings and residence areas.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate second shift custodial staff; manage attendance, time off approvals, and overtime.
• Manage purchasing and inventory control of equipment, furnishings, materials, and supplies for Facilities Operations.
• Provide weekly reports to the Interim Assistant Director of Facilities.
• Ensure timely communications with departments to provide work status updates.
• Develop and implement staff training and development programs for Maintainers.
• Prepare performance evaluations for staff for review by the Interim Director.
• Coordinate with Human Resources on performance and disciplinary matters within bargaining agreements.
• Maintain standards of service and evaluate staff performance.
• Communicate work status updates to appropriate parties.
• Conduct daily walk-throughs and inspections of campus areas; address concerns.
• Respond to campus emergencies and on-call duties as assigned.
• Ensure compliance with federal/state/local laws, OSHA, HAZMAT, and college policies.
