Job summary

City of Kingsport is seeking a custodian to clean and maintain City facilities, ensuring presentable, sanitary spaces daily. Duties include sweeping hallways, mopping floors, vacuuming, cleaning toilets and sinks, dusting, replacing light bulbs, emptying trash, washing windows, and clearing ice and snow; opening/closing buildings for weekend events.

Required: high school diploma or equivalent (preferred), six months custodial experience, knowledge of cleaning materials and safety procedures, and

Qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment, procedures.
• Knowledge of the proper and safe use of custodial supplies, equipment, and machines.
• Skill in operating wax stripper and high speed buffer.
• Skill in working with strong cleaning solvents.
• Skill in following established safety standards and procedures.
• Skill in following basic custodial procedures.
• Skill in performing minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment.
• Skill in following oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Sweep/mop hallways, stairs, and bathroom floors daily.
• Vacuum carpets daily.
• Clean/sanitize toilets, urinals, sinks, and water fountains daily.
• Dust/polish blinds, tables, and chairs.
• Replace light bulbs.
• Empty trash and recycle bins.
• Wash windows.
• Remove ice from entrance sidewalks and snow.
• Open/close building for weekend events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
