Job summary

Jefferson Health in Stratford, CT (Kennedy University Hospitals system) seeks an Environmental Services worker for evening shift (3-11:30pm) with rotating weekends/holidays. Responsibilities include cleaning, biohazard disposal, equipment upkeep, PPE compliance, and patient interactions to maintain a safe hospital environment.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred; 6 months to 1 year in healthcare housekeeping is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Experience in housekeeping in healthcare settings preferred.
• Ability to follow safety guidelines and PPE requirements.
• Able to interact with patients and visitors with courtesy and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Establishes and maintains clean, sanitary, and safe environment in assigned work areas by following departmental policies and procedures (20%).
• Proper disposal of biohazards according to EPA and OSHA codes and regulations; handle disposal of environmental contaminants (20%).
• Maintains equipment, clean carts, buckets, floor machines, and supply closets to keep the hospital professional in appearance (20%).
• Complies with PPE requirements to protect against exposure to blood and other body fluids, chemicals, and other hazards (5%).
• Follows hand hygiene policies (5%).
• Completes and maintains carpet and hard surface flooring per procedures (10%).
• Observes safety when moving equipment; reports faults per safety policy (5%).
• Uses wet floor signs to prevent slips (5%).
• Speaks with patients and visitors using scripting to extend courtesy (5%).
• Assists with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, recycling, and set-ups as needed (5%).
• Responds to pages or calls promptly and performs other duties as assigned.
