Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for our Emergency Department in Elizabeth, NJ. The role requires providing high‑quality patient care during the evening shift (3PM–3:30AM) in a busy ED, with ongoing opportunities for professional development.

The RN will assess and treat patients, document in the EMR (EPIC), and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient transitions of care.

Qualifications

• Active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification. ACLS on hire or within 6 months of start date.
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing strongly preferred.
• Prior patient care experience; comfort with EPIC EMR.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes, intervening early.
• Administer safe, evidence‑based medications and hands‑on care.
• Collaborate with physicians and providers to support timely, coordinated care decisions.
• Educate patients and families clearly and compassionately for the next phase of care.
• Document accurately in the electronic medical record to promote continuity and safety.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary rounds and team communication.
• Participate in a collaborative team culture with shared accountability.
• Pursue continuing education and professional growth opportunities.
