Job summary

Oakland Schools is seeking a second shift custodian for Birmingham Public Schools. This full-time position runs 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM and requires reliable, hardworking individuals to maintain clean and safe facilities.

Responsibilities include cleaning duties, equipment care, coordinating with staff, lifting up to 25 lbs, and being available for on-call snow removal and overtime as needed. You will work closely with district staff and administrators to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications

• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
• Must stand, walk, and climb stairs for long portions of the shift.
• Second shift, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM, with potential overtime.
• On-call snow removal duties during winter.

Responsibilities

• Maintain courteous, friendly, and professional relationships with staff and district stakeholders.
• Cooperate with maintenance and facility staff to schedule activities and repairs.
• Assure that custodial equipment is used properly and reported if not working.
• Folding laundry and putting it away; contact supervisor as needed.
• Responsible for efficient and proper use of custodial supplies and equipment.
• Communicate with custodial supervisor daily.
• Assist with custodial assignments due to scheduling, absenteeism, and special events.
• Assist with disinfecting if COVID cases are identified in buildings.
• Complete all tasks as assigned.
• Outstanding customer service to work with district staff and administrators.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
• Ability to work well with the public and outside groups.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Must arrive early up to two hours for snow removal to ensure walkways are clear before school starts (on call).
• Must be able to lift up to 25lbs and push/pull equipment.
• Must be able to stand, walk and regularly ascend/descend stairs for 90% of shift.
• Must be able to reach above head and below waist.
