Job summary

Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology at the Moses campus is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform routine and emergency tests on blood and body fluids using automated and manual equipment, under supervision. Hours 6:00pm–9:45pm with alternate weekends.

The ideal candidate has an Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or Science and 1 year of work experience, and holds a New York State Clinical Laboratory Technician License or a limited permit, with provisional

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or Science required.
• 1 year of work experience.
• New York State Clinical Laboratory Technician License or limited permit; provisional within 3 months.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and emergency tests on blood, serum, spinal fluid and other body fluids using automated and manual equipment, depending on procedure.
• Monitor specimens to ensure work is completed and report any abnormal values.
• Maintain quality control data on tests performed, resolve QC failures and document actions as stipulated by laboratory procedures.
• Prepare reagents and take inventory, and advise supervisor as required.
• Maintain all records of work performed and keep maintenance logs of equipment.
• Assist with answering the telephone and perform order entry in the LIS system, as necessary.
• Assist with the training of new employees.
• Maintain clean work area in accordance with Infection Control guidelines.
• Perform other laboratory related tasks under the direction of a supervisor, as and when required.
