Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in a customer-facing service position, or three years of experience in a library support position.
  • Experience with library management operating systems and applications such as OCLC WorldShare.
  • Experience with supervisory/ managerial responsibilities and commitment to customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming, safe environment for library patrons and staff during evening hours.
  • Use OCLC WorldShare Management Services to circulate materials and manage patron accounts.
  • Enforce circulation policies and procedures and contribute to them as needed.
  • Manage lost/overdue workflows and reintegrate materials into the collection.
  • Assist with hiring, training, daily supervision, scheduling, and evaluating student assistants.
  • Maintain and update the Course Reserve service and track reserve statistics.
  • Ensure library security by coordinating with Campus Safety during evenings.

Basic Function

Under the supervision of the Director of Pearson Library, theEvening Circulation Coordinator supports Pearson Library'spatron-centered services in circulation, course reserves, stacksmaintenance, and building access and usage. As the supervisoron-duty, the person in this position ensures that the safety andsecurity functions of Pearson Library are in place. With the helpof student employees, this person will routinely perform stacksmanagement functions, compile reports and data, assist patrons, andcollaborate and cross-train with other Library departments asnecessary.

Representative Duties
  • The primary staff member in the evening hours is responsiblefor creating a welcoming and safe environment for library patronsand staff through active listening, leading by example, andreferring questions as necessary.
  • Use the library management system, OCLC WorldShare ManagementServices (WMS), to circulate library materials, and manage patronaccounts.
  • Assists with circulation policy and procedure enforcement andformulation.
  • Manages the lost/overdue workflows to reintegrate librarymaterials into a collection, or handle charges placed on libraryand university accounts.
  • Assists with hiring, training, daily supervision, scheduling,and evaluating the performance of student assistants. Prepares andalternates leading student training meetings. Develops andcontinually updates training materials for student assistants.
  • Assists with the management of the Course Reserve service bymaintaining and updating the reserve shelf to ensure that the materials are available in a timely manner. Maintains reserve usagestatistics and in collaboration with the Head of CollectionManagement Services or Director of Pearson Library, and ensurescompliance with copyright laws as they pertain to coursereserves.
  • Ensures library security by maintaining ongoing communicationwith Campus Safety as needed in the evening hours.
  • Coordinates regularly with Public Services staff and otherareas to communicate news and updates.
  • Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.

  • Interpret and apply general administrative and departmentalpolicies and procedures.
  • Direct the training of student workers and implementconstructive supervision of their tasks.
  • Work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends,ranging between 20-30 hours per week depending on the academicterm. General schedule will be: Saturday: 12p-5pm,
    Sunday - Wednesday: 4pm-10pm
Minimum Qualifications

Any combination equivalent: A Bachelor's degree from a recognizedcollege or university and one year of experience in acustomer-facing service position, or three years of experience in alibrary support position.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with library management operating systems andapplications such as OCLC WorldShare.Experience withsupervisory/managerial responsibilities.Experience demonstrating acommitment to customer service.

Licenses and Other Requirements

Willingness to work a nontraditional schedule that is contingent ondepartmental needs and/or academic term.

Physical Abilities

Communicate to exchange information in person, in writing, and onthe telephone; Stationary position for extended periods; Move ortransport light objects; Position self to store and/or retrievefiles.

Working Environment

Office environment with frequent interruptions and multipleprojects.
