Job summary

Colgate University is seeking a shuttle driver to operate campus transportation vehicles, delivering safe and courteous service to students, staff, and the public in Hamilton, NY. The role requires a CDL Class C with endorsements, DOT physical, and a valid driver’s license, with limited terms and a 10-month schedule.

Shifts run Thursday through Sunday, 4:30pm–2:30am, totaling a 40-hour work week. Excellent driving history, background checks, and willingness to pass drug screenings are required.

Qualifications

• Must meet 19-A qualifications.
• Must submit and pass a DOT physical examination.
• Must have at least three years of driving experience.
• Employment is contingent upon completing a thorough background check, including employment history and a criminal record check.
• Pre-employment and continued random drug screening will be required.
• Must complete recertification requirements as needed.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate a shuttle, bus, or van to safely transport passengers around campus and throughout the Village of Hamilton.
• Adhere to all traffic regulations while following and enforcing safety procedures.
• Follow emergency procedures for mechanical failures, accidents, and medical emergencies.
• Record and report incidents/problems through appropriate procedures.
• Provide information to students, faculty, and staff regarding the shuttle service program.
• Maintain CDL and all applicable certifications and endorsements.
• May occasionally take on dual roles including driving and dispatch duties to support departmental requirements.
