Job summary
The National Geographic Society in Washington, DC area is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to support the Base Camp renovation and campus operations. You will perform preventative and corrective maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical and life-safety systems under the direction of the Shift Lead.
You will document all work in CMMS, assist with new equipment installation and air balancing, and troubleshoot complex systems.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; trade/vocational training preferred.
- Two years of experience maintaining mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in commercial/office environments.
- 6th Class Operating Engineer’s License encouraged; 24 hours/yr CEU required.
- Shift: 12:00pm-10:30pm Wed-Sat; willing to work varying hours as needed.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance (80%) on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life-safety equipment.
- Respond to service requests (10%) during shift, troubleshoot issues, address temperature concerns and minor repairs.
- Document all work in CMMS and consult maintenance manuals for procedures.
- Assist Shift Lead with projects: equipment installation, air balancing, complex system troubleshooting; keep mechanical rooms clean.
