Job summary

UPMC Magee-Women's Hospital is seeking a Birth Registrar for evening shifts to support the birth registry and related processes. The role alternates between clerical/data entry work and personal interactions with new parents to capture baby names for birth certificates.

Cross-training covers Outpatient Registration, Labor and Delivery, and the Emergency Department, with emphasis on strong customer service and legible handwriting for documentation.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with PC-based applications and office equipment; typing skills.
• Two years in a medical/billing/customer service function preferred.
• Medical terminology and third-party health care coverage experience preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required.
• Initiative to work with minimal supervision and handle pressure.

Responsibilities

• Complete Acknowledgement of Paternity form with mother.
• Operate and utilize all systems and office equipment efficiently.
• Generate and complete forms while obtaining consent to treatment and financial responsibility per HIPAA.
• Interview postpartum patients to verify and collect birth certificate data via DAVE.
• Enter Hepatitis B vaccine information into DAVE daily log.
• Correct vital statistics records and complete MA-112 form when applicable.
• Field billing and patient inquiries related to the birth registry process.
