Job summary

City of Salt Lake City is seeking a Fleet Mechanic Bargaining Unit to perform journey-level diagnosis, repair and maintenance on heavy and light vehicles, including EVs, under the supervision of the shift supervisor. Required experience and ASE certifications encouraged.

The role involves diagnosing mechanical and electrical problems, selecting parts, overhauling components, welding, performing safety inspections, and mentoring trainees.

Qualifications

  • 4-6 years' experience in operation, repair and maintenance of passenger vehicles, trucks and EVs.
  • Knowledge of automotive practices and welding trades; ability to diagnose defects.
  • Must possess all necessary hand tools.
  • Certification for vehicle safety inspections and emissions testing or ability to obtain within six months.
  • Possession of a valid state driver's license and CDL Class A.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair and maintain heavy and light equipment and EVs.
  • Inspect, replace and overhaul components including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, hydraulics and electronics.
  • Instruct and mentor Fleet Mechanic trainees.
  • Perform safety inspections, emissions tests and welding as required.
  • Maintain shop records and input data via computer.
