Job summary

Highland Electric Fleets seeks a Project Engineer to own engineering design packages for EV charging, BESS, and edge compute projects. You will drive concept through permit-ready design, coordinating with external engineers and AHJ requirements to move sites to build-ready status.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will guide external partners, review packages, and ensure NEC compliance while supporting procurement and design standardization across a large portfolio.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or 8+ years related experience.
• 3–5+ years of experience in project-based design management (renewable energy, EV charging, or power grids).
• 2+ years of construction project design specification development and management.
• 3+ years of managing third-party engineering consultants.
• 1+ years of EV charging infrastructure project design experience.
• Familiarity with project management and review software (Procore, Bluebeam).

Responsibilities

• Generate project-specific conceptual and schematic design packages.
• Review and approve design packages across development and permit stages.
• Solicit responses to design inquiries from customers, consultants, contractors, utilities, and permitting authorities.
• Direct and QA external engineering partners to keep portfolio-wide timelines.
• Ensure adherence to NEC, engineering standards and Highland specs.
• Interpret utility and AHJ requirements for compliant designs.
• Support development of a repository for utility and AHJ design requirements.
• Support procurement and equipment selection approval process.
