Job summary

The City of Cleveland seeks an Assistant Director of Law – Ethics and Compliance to advise on ethics, oversee investigations of workplace misconduct, and support police accountability and reform efforts.

Reporting to the Chief Ethics Officer, the role requires a JD, Ohio license, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to handle confidential matters with integrity.

Qualifications

• JD degree from an accredited law school and Ohio license.
• Experience conducting investigations and advising on complex issues.
• Strong written and verbal communication to diverse audiences.
• Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and integrity.

Responsibilities

• Serve as subject matter expert on state and local ethics laws.
• Provide legal advice and counsel on ethical dilemmas to reduce misconduct risks.
• Draft advisory opinions to assist employees in conflicts of interest.
• Conduct reviews and draft reports with recommendations from ethics complaints.
• Review city policies to ensure compliance with laws.
• Develop ethics education content and training programs.
• Promote awareness of ethics standards across city operations.
• Assist in police accountability and reform work related to consent decree.
