Job summary

J.H. Hassinger Construction Services is seeking an Estimator for the Masonry/Concrete Self Performance Division in Menomonee Falls, WI. You will lead takeoffs, prepare bids, and coordinate with subs and partners to ensure competitive, accurate budgets.

You will visit job sites, assess risks, and help optimize costs, schedules and resources while promoting safety and on-time delivery for self-perform work.

Qualifications

• Experience estimating concrete and masonry for self-performance projects.
• Ability to coordinate bid docs and RFI tracking with partners.
• Proactive in visiting job sites to inform estimating with on-site insights.
• Detail oriented with strong problem solving and entrepreneurial mindset.

Estimator - Masonry/Concrete Self Performance Division

Job Description:

• Lead by example to promote a robust and transparent safety culture.
• Follow and support safety regulations and company policies, fostering a culture of workplace safety.
• Utilize knowledge of Masonry and Concrete construction practices to accurately estimate project scope, manpower needs, work hours, material requirements and resource management to create an accurate and profitable budget for self-performance work. Direct Field experience welcomed.
• Coordinate and manage bid and estimate documentation, including RFI tracking to partners, clients and owners.
• Coordinate and manage material pricing, including potential alternates and efficiencies.
• Review project specs and scopes and ask questions where clarification is needed, both internally to subject matter experts and externally to subcontractors and partners.
• Secure at least 3 bids per scope on all trades/divisions, including soliciting new trade partners and subcontractors.
• Visit job sites and explore how estimating can positively impact construction delivery including costs, phasing, resource planning and scope auditing.
• Evaluate and highlight risks in project including scope coverage deficiencies, subcontract, schedule and resource exposure for handoff to operational partners.
• Perform takeoffs and support documents to ensure accurate estimates and bids.
• Through our bid management software, BuildingConnected, and other means and methods including emails and phone calls, send out, track and follow up on bid invites and ensure bid coverage by trade and scope.
• Be an active participant and contributor, including potentially leading team coordination, for bid day activities and overall support, as needed.
• Serve as a positive Ambassador at outside partner lunch and learns, partner and subcontractor events.
• Actively outreach and contact new vendors for current and future opportunities.
• Apply for target funds in support on union projects.

Requirements

• Knowledge of commercial construction materials, means and methods, and equipment preferred
• A minimum 5-10 years' experience estimating concrete and/or masonry trade work for a self-performance construction company
• A minimum 3-5 years' experience in the field performing concrete and/or masonry trade work for a self-performance construction company preferred, but not required
• Associate's degree, vocational training, certification from an accreditation organization, union program, or combination of schooling and relevant work experience welcomed
• Detail oriented problem solver with an entrepreneurial mindset
• Ability to lift, carry or hold 5-10 lbs. occasionally
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet commercial insurance requirements
• Ability to work occasional weekends, evenings and holidays
• Ability to clearly communicate with others and convey information effectively
• Ability to use logic, problem solving and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
