Job summary

AWT Labels & Packaging in Minneapolis, MN is seeking a detail-oriented estimator/planner to translate customer specifications into executable project plans. You will quote accurately, plan efficient production, and coordinate with management, manufacturing, and purchasing to maximize profitability.

Responsibilities include timely RFQ processing, ensuring quote accuracy, and following ISO 9001 procedures, with a focus on continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration to meet customer

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; a post-secondary graphic arts education or related degree is preferred.
• Prefer 3+ years in the industry related to estimating to convert specs into a project plan.

Responsibilities

• Understand customer specifications and plan jobs to quote profitably.
• Ensure quotes are completed on time and accurate.
• Process RFQs within established time frames.
• Plan jobs for efficient production to meet customer standards.
• Coordinate with purchasing on buyouts and outside purchases.
• Communicate production information accurately to avoid rework.
• Pursue cost-saving planning ideas.
• Follow ISO SOPs as trained.
• Review planned vs. actual data and requote as needed.
• Communicate with vendors and align with AWT labels & packaging requirements.
• Inform production of capacity issues in advance.
• Participate in quality and process improvement initiatives.

AWT has the following position open in our Minneapolis, MN location:

The schedule for this position is Mon - Fri, Hours are - 8am - 4:30pm. Additional days and hours may be necessary due to production requirements.

Required Job Duties

Based on customer provided specifications, identify requirements, and accurately quote and plan jobs to meet or exceed estimated profitability; interact with corporate management, manufacturing, sales, customers, and suppliers.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities (Note, activities that occupy approx. 80% of time):

• Understand AWT’s processes and production procedures to quote or plan jobs in the most cost-effective manner.
• Ensures that quotes are completed on time and are accurate based on current information.
• Ensures that RFQs are processed within established time frames.
• Actively plans jobs to ensure efficient production to meet customer standards.
• Ensures that information regarding buyouts and outside purchases is effectively communicated to the purchasing department for ordering.
• Ensures by updating and verifying that all information communicated to production is complete and accurate to avoid any rework or rejects due to lack of or incorrect information.
• Actively pursues planning ideas that save production dollars.
• Follows ISO SOPs as trained.

Secondary Tasks and Responsibilities (Occupies balance of time):

• Reviews planned vs. actual data to evaluate accuracy of estimates; requote as appropriate and communicate updated sell pricing to sales.
• Ensures that AWT Labels & Packaging requirements are accurately communicated to vendors.
• Ensures that production is informed of possible capacity issues in advance, based on job planning.
• Ensures that job components arrive on time to manufacturing.
• Actively participates in the quality and process improvement initiatives.
• Ensures that ISO 9001 procedures are followed and updated as processes change.
• Actively engages sales, production, and CSRs as necessary on RFQ’s.

Requirements

Physical Job Demands

This position spends most of their time at a desk working on the computer, but it does require some walking – (i.e., meeting with production personnel as requested, sales, customer service and management).

• Proficiency with PC and Windows based software skills

Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent GED; prefer post-secondary graphic arts education or related college degree or a strong ability to convert specifications into a project plan. Prefer a minimum 3 yrs. in the industry doing related activities which lend experience to estimating.

Method to Measure Performance

Employee is evaluated after the training/orientation period (usually 90 days). They are evaluated again at 6 months and one year and thereafter at their annual review.
