Genesis is hiring an Engineering conceptual Estimator for an engineering firm in Birmingham, AL. This Estimator will need to have chemical, paper mill or refinery experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent technical education and heavy industrial field experience, plus 7–10+ years in heavy industrial cost estimating with a focus on power generation or cogeneration or related industries.

• 7–10+ years of heavy industrial cost estimating, with a strong focus on power generation and cogeneration or any other heavy industrial industry experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprint and specification requirements for projects being estimated.

Responsibilities

• Work with project managers, schedulers (Primavera P6), safety, and engineering to align estimates with the execution plan.
• Help prepare bid proposals, value engineering options, and executive review presentations.
• Identify risks such as site constraints, outage schedules, constructability issues and long‑lead equipment.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent technical education and heavy industrial field experience
• 7–10+ years of heavy industrial cost estimating, with a strong focus on power generation and cogeneration or any other heavy industrial industry experience

• Possess good math skills, able to read and correctly interpret blueprint and specification requirements for projects being estimated.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented
• Required: Proficiency in Timberline (Sage Estimating) or similar (MC2, WinEst)
• Proficiency with digital takeoff tools (eTakeoff, PlanSwift, Bluebeam Revu)
• Advanced Excel skills (custom cost sheets, pivot tables, data modeling)
• Familiarity with Primavera P6 and BIM/CAD integration
