Job summary

IB Abel is seeking an Electrical Estimator for its Substation Services division to analyze blueprints, specs, quotes, and other docs to prepare a comprehensive bid submission.

The role requires reviewing contracts, performing material take-offs, obtaining vendor quotes, and coordinating with PMs to align estimates with project execution. Local PA with travel flexibility is preferred.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar.
Five years+ related estimating experience in Electric construction.
Proficient in MS Office and Accubid Estimating Software.
Knowledge of Microsoft Projects and/or Primavera is a plus.
Local to Pennsylvania with occasional travel to other offices and sites.

Responsibilities

Estimating Execution & Bid Preparation: review documents, perform take-off, obtain quotes, and support bid input.
Bid Administration & Documentation: upload project docs, submit RFIs, and handle qualification docs.
Contract & Scope Review: check PO/subcontracts for accuracy and identify key milestones and changes.
Project Handoff & Collaboration: support project startup and communicate cost estimate basis to PM team.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an electrical Estimator for our Substation Services division who is responsible for analyzing blueprints, specifications, quotes, and other documentation to prepare an all-inclusive quality and accurate bid submission.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating Execution & Bid Preparation - Review all contract documents to understand requirements, risks, and pricing impacts; Perform material take-off; Obtain vendor and subcontractor quotes and evaluate for completeness and best price; Participate in the estimate review process with internal and external stakeholders; and Prepare and/or provide input for customer deliverables (schedule, proposal letter, etc.).

Bid Administration & Documentation Management - Work with Estimating Project Administrator to upload project documents for vendors/subcontractors and to submit RFIs for estimating questions by deadline; Distribute qualification documents as required for the bid; Prepare award documents for review to be submitted by deadline; and Assure complete and thorough pre-construction planning and distribution of all documents per project delivery process.

Contract & Scope Review - Review purchase orders, subcontracts, and contracts for accuracy; Identify areas of importance (milestones, liquidated damages, etc.) and relay to project management (PM) team; Identify possible change orders; and Facilitate a scope review with PM team to align estimate assumptions with project execution.

Project Handoff & Collaboration - Assist construction personnel at project startup to communicate basis and approach of cost estimate; Attend pre-construction/project meetings; and Relay project insights to PM team.

Who We’re Looking For

An acceptable combination of education and/or work experience within the Electric Utility industry (Electric Utility preferred) with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar preferred.

Five years or more related experience in Electric construction industry performing cost estimates and estimating knowledge of electrical industry.

An acceptable combination of education and work experience, validating estimating skill level.

Proficient in MS Office applications and Accubid Estimating Software

Knowledge of Microsoft Projects and/or Primavera a plus

Local to Pennsylvania (preferable) but with occasional travel to other offices, customer facilities, jobsites and yard locations for offsite meetings (flexibility to work from home when appropriate).
