Job summary

IB Abel is seeking an Electrical Estimator for our Substation Services division in Pennsylvania. The role focuses on analyzing blueprints, specs, quotes, and other docs to prepare comprehensive bid submissions.

You will review contracts, perform material take-offs, obtain vendor quotes, and support pre-construction planning while collaborating with PM teams to ensure accurate estimates and successful project handoffs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar preferred.
• Five years or more related experience in Electric construction industry.
• Proficient in MS Office and Accubid Estimating Software.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Project and/or Primavera a plus.
• Local to Pennsylvania with occasional travel to other offices, customer facilities, jobsites and yard locations.
• Can-do attitude and ability to collaborate effectively with various teams.

Responsibilities

• Estimating execution and bid preparation: review contract documents, perform material take-off, obtain quotes, and participate in estimate reviews.
• Bid administration and documentation management: upload project documents, submit RFIs, and prepare award documents within deadlines.
• Contract and scope review: verify accuracy of purchase orders/subcontracts, identify milestones and potential change orders, and align with PM team.
• Project handoff and collaboration: support project startup, attend pre-construction meetings, and relay cost estimate insights to PM team.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an electrical Estimator for our Substation Services division who is responsible for analyzing blueprints, specifications, quotes, and other documentation to prepare an all-inclusive quality and accurate bid submission.

Key Responsibilities

• Estimating Execution & Bid Preparation - Review all contract documents to understand requirements, risks, and pricing impacts; Perform material take-off; Obtain vendor and subcontractor quotes and evaluate for completeness and best price; Participate in the estimate review process with internal and external stakeholders; and Prepare and/or provide input for customer deliverables (schedule, proposal letter, etc.).


• Bid Administration & Documentation Management - Work with Estimating Project Administrator to upload project documents for vendors/subcontractors and to submit RFIs for estimating questions by deadline; Distribute qualification documents as required for the bid; Prepare award documents for review to be submitted by deadline; and Assure complete and thorough pre-construction planning and distribution of all documents per project delivery process.


• Contract & Scope Review - Review purchase orders, subcontracts, and contracts for accuracy; Identify areas of importance (milestones, liquidated damages, etc.) and relay to project management (PM) team; Identify possible change orders; and Facilitate a scope review with PM team to align estimate assumptions with project execution.


• Project Handoff & Collaboration - Assist construction personnel at project startup to communicate basis and approach of cost estimate; Attend pre-construction/project meetings; and Relay project insights to PM team.

Who We’re Looking For

• An acceptable combination of education and/or work experience within the Electric Utility industry (Electric Utility preferred) with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar preferred.

• Five years or more related experience in Electric construction industry performing cost estimates and estimating knowledge of electrical industry.


• An acceptable combination of education and work experience, validating estimating skill level.


• Proficient in MS Office applications and Accubid Estimating Software


• Knowledge of Microsoft Projects and/or Primavera a plus


• Local to Pennsylvania (preferable) but with occasional travel to other offices, customer facilities, jobsites and yard locations for offsite meetings (flexibility to work from home when appropriate).


• A “can-do” attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to collaborate effectively with various teams.
