Job summary

IB Abel is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator for our Substation Services division to lead the estimating group through all phases of the estimating life cycle. You will develop detailed and accurate estimates, guide peer checks, and support post-bid customer requirements, working with PMs and field teams.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in electrical construction cost estimating, familiarity with substation practices, and proficiency in Excel, Word, Primavera P6, and MS Project.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of related experience in the electrical construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of substation construction practices is highly preferred.
• Proficient in Excel, Word, Primavera P6 and MS Project.

Responsibilities

• Estimate execution and bid preparation; review contract documents and perform material take-offs; obtain quotes and input for customer deliverables.
• Bid administration and documentation management; upload documents, issue RFIs, distribute qualifications, prepare award documents.
• Contract and scope review; identify milestones and change orders; align estimate assumptions with project execution.
• Provide leadership to associate estimators; mentor and perform peer checks; support RFP deliverables.
• Project handoff and collaboration; communicate basis of cost estimate; participate in pre-construction meetings.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced electrical Senior Estimator for our Substation Services division who is responsible for providing effective leadership to the affiliated division's estimating group through all aspects of the estimating life cycle. This position is accountable for the development and submission of detailed and accurate estimates, providing guidance / peer checks to other estimators, and for supporting post bid submission customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Estimating Execution & Bid Preparation - Review all contract documents to understand requirements, risks, and pricing impacts; Perform material take-off; Obtain vendor and subcontractor quotes and evaluate for completeness and best price; Participate in the estimate review process with internal and external stakeholders; and Prepare and/or provide input for customer deliverables (schedule, proposal letter, etc.).
• Bid Administration & Documentation Management - Work with Estimating Project Administrator to upload project documents for vendors/subcontractors and to submit RFIs for estimating questions by deadline; Distribute qualification documents as required for the bid; Prepare award documents for review to be submitted by deadline; and Assure complete and thorough pre-construction planning and distribution of all documents per project delivery process.
• Contract & Scope Review - Review purchase orders, subcontracts, and contracts for accuracy; Identify areas of importance (milestones, liquidated damages, etc.) and relay to project management (PM) team; Identify possible change orders; and Facilitate a scope review with PM team to align estimate assumptions with project execution.
• Leadership and Influence - Mentor Associate Estimators; assist in creating a developmental plan for Associate Estimators; peer check all regional estimates, proposals and lead bid reviews; and work with others in the Group to develop RFP deliverables that are of the highest quality, accurate and coincide with RFP expectations.
• Project Handoff & Collaboration - Assist construction personnel at project startup to communicate basis and approach of cost estimate; Attend pre-construction/project meetings; and Relay project insights to PM team.

Who We're Looking For

• An acceptable combination of education and/or work experience within the Electric Utility industry (Electric Utility preferred) including five (5) or more years of related experience in electrical construction industry
• Knowledge of substation construction practices with familiarity of large substation projects highly preferred
• Ten or more years performing cost estimating for the electrical industry
• Five or more years' Experience on GMP estimates.
• Design build estimating experience
• Ability to travel as required throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast
• Knowledge of general construction practices
• Knowledge of the National Electric Code and NFPA 70E
• Proficient in Excel, Word, Primavera 6 and MS Project
• Local to Pennsylvania (preferable) but with occasional travel to other offices, customer facilities, jobsites and yard locations for offsite meetings (flexibility to work from home when appropriate)
• A "can-do" attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to collaborate effectively with various teams
