Job summary

Hatteras Capital Advisors in Columbia, SC is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our preconstruction team. You will analyze project documents, perform quantity takeoffs, and prepare detailed cost estimates for bid proposals on commercial construction projects.

You will coordinate with subcontractors, develop budgets, assemble bid tabulations, and ensure timely, accurate bids while building strong supplier relationships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Minimum 5+ years of estimating experience in commercial construction.
• Proficiency with On-Screen Takeoff and other estimating software.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and computer skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with ability to work cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans, drawings, and specifications to confirm complete and coordinated scopes of work.
• Identify and evaluate risk factors and develop strategies to mitigate them during bidding.
• Manage and respond to invitations to bid and coordinate proposal submissions.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analyses for assigned trades.
• Collaborate with managers on conceptual budgets and preliminary pricing efforts.
• Develop bid tab sheets, gather and analyze subcontractor proposals, and prepare bid tabulations.
• Author trade-specific qualifications and exclusions for bid packages.
• Maintain and grow subcontractor and supplier relationships ensuring alignment with company values and client expectations.
• Participate in industry networking events to expand subcontractor database and market knowledge.
• Coordinate smooth turnover of awarded projects to the project management team.
