Job summary

The Scruggs Company in Waycross, GA is seeking an experienced Estimator to support road construction bids and cost estimates. The role requires preparing take-offs, coordinating with suppliers, and compiling bid documents to win projects.

Ideal candidates will have a Civil Engineering background, 2–5 years bidding experience, and strong Excel skills, with travel to sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or construction-related field preferred.
• 2–5 years experience in road construction bidding.
• Proficient in Excel.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Georgia driver’s license; travel to site as estimator.

Responsibilities

• Review tender documents, plans and specifications.
• Perform detailed quantity take-offs using AGTEK.
• Solicit and receive quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Attend site visits and take field measurements for quotations.
• Review plans, permits and drawings; prepare bid proposals.
• Prepare subcontractor comparison sheets for evaluation.
• Prepare project books; develop call lists and coverage.
• Develop and maintain client/subcontractor relationships.
• Estimate projects using HCSS Heavy Bid software.
• Assist field management with cost controls and change orders.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Review tender documents, plans and specifications
• Perform detailed quantity take-offs using AGTEK
• Solicit and receive quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
• Attend site visits and take field measurements as required for preparing quotations
• Review all plans and specifications, permits, set of drawings
• Prepare bid proposal
• Prepare subcontractor comparison sheets for evaluation
• Prepare Project Books
• Prepare call list and follow up for coverage
• Develop and maintain positive client/subcontractor relationships
• Estimate projects using HCSS Heavy Bid software
• Assist field management with cost controls and change orders

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or construction related field preferred, a combination of education and/or experience could also satisfy requirements.

• Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in road construction industry with bidding proficiency required
• Must be proficient in Excel
• Ability to organize and manage time and duties efficiently
• Effectively communicate verbally and in writing
• Employer conducts drug screening and background check
• Georgia driver’s license required as estimators frequently travel to and from the office
