Job summary

Conti Civil, LLC. is seeking an experienced Estimator to develop accurate budgets and detailed estimates for infrastructure projects. You will coordinate bid documents, pricing with subcontractors, and align procurement with project needs in a collaborative team environment.

As a civil contractor with a track record in DOT-heavy projects, this role requires strong analytical skills, attention to risk, and effective communication with the Contracts and Operations teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in heavy civil construction estimating or project operations.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management or related field preferred.
• Experience with bid packages, subcontractor buyouts, and cost-to-completes.

Responsibilities

• Investigates specs, scope, drawings to develop budgets and estimates.
• Create subcontractor/material supplier bid lists and bid packages.
• Obtain bids, price risk, and develop pricing strategies.

What We Are Looking For

The Estimator bids and wins highly profitable and feasibly constructible projects that have pricing strategies developed to maximize our profits, and cash flow and avoid any losses during construction. The Estimator is responsible for the coordination of bid documents, labor productions, subcontractor and vendor pricing, subcontractor and vendor buyouts, project start‑up meetings, owner estimates, subcontractor and vendor requisitions, and cost-to-completes.

Responsibilities

• Thoroughly investigates the specifications, scope of work, and drawings to develop accurate preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates, and detailed estimates including quantity takeoffs
• Create subcontractor/material supplier bid lists
• Prepare bid packages, obtain bids from subcontractors and vendors
• Develops pricing strategies.
• Attends team kick off and schedule oversight meetings, red team reviews, and/or additional reviews.
• Negotiates the best deal for cost, quality, and delivery using the company buyout procedure.
• Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of the contract documents and the potential risks for a project. Makes well-supported recommendations on how to mitigate and price risks.
• Interfaces extensively with the Contracts department to address any risks or issues with the contract.
• Manages the buyout process, writes the requisition, and communicates all required information to the Project Team.
• Participate with the operations team during the strategy meetings on the approach to the project or estimate.
• Assist in the preparation of preliminary construction schedules and work plans.
• Attend design meetings with the Owner, Architect, Engineers, and Consultants
• Participate in the project hand‑off meeting between the project Operations team and the estimating team.
• Visit ongoing projects to verify the status of estimate versus project status, meet with the project operations team, view work in place for experience, and comparison to the estimate
• Develop various construction means and methods with the Superintendent and/or Project Manager to optimize safety, cost, equipment utilization, schedule efficiency, and communication with the client.
• Produces and manages project submittals, shop drawings, and material certifications so all are submitted and approved prior to the start of work.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction with a strong DOT civil background with experience in estimating and/or project operations
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management or related field preferred
• Background in project start‑up meetings, sub‑contractor and vendor by‑outs, owner estimates, sub / vendor requisitions and cost-to-completes
• Excellent teamwork, communication and people skills a must.
• Has a solid time management system and demonstrates excellent organizational skills.
• Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and ERP systems.
• Working knowledge of estimating, engineering, cost‑tracking systems, and site surveying
• Working knowledge of HCSS is highly preferred
• Will require travel to job sites
