Job summary

Goodfellow Bros. in Portland, OR, seeks an Estimator to join our team. The Estimator will prepare accurate bids for private and public-sector improvement projects, identify bid opportunities, and develop competitive proposals.

The role emphasizes detail, timely deliverables, and collaboration with project teams. The right candidate will evaluate documents, coordinate take-offs, manage subcontractor quotes, and support profitably through the bid and post-bid stages.

Qualifications

• Estimator responsible for providing accurate, timely and comprehensive bids for private and public-sector improvement projects.
• Identify bid opportunities and prepare bid documents.
• Develop winning proposals.
• Contribute during construction phase with estimate interpretation, problem resolution, change orders, and account management.
• Be cognizant of your influence as a positive role model to less experienced staff.

Responsibilities

• Thoroughly evaluate bid documents, determine scope and breadth of work for self-perform and subcontracted work.
• Coordinate and evaluate quantity take-off for pursuits; highlight critical details.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to evaluate constraints for profitable estimates.
• Identify and contact subcontractors, suppliers and service providers for scope clarifications and quotes.
• Use historical cost data to develop timely estimates and mitigate risks.
• Tabulate estimated cost and duration for each activity to ensure profitable pursuit.
• Complete the estimate and produce schedules and executive summaries ahead of submission.
• After submission, organize bid documents and pricing backups for archiving or handoff.

PositionSummary

TheEstimatorisresponsibleforprovidingaccurate,timelyandcomprehensivebidsforprivateandpublic-sectorimprovementprojects.Specifically,therolewillberesponsibleforidentifyingbidopportunities,preparingcompetitivebiddocumentsanddevelopingwinningproposals.Inaddition,theEstimatorwillcontributetothesuccessandprofitabilityofprojectsbyprovidingongoingassistanceduringtheconstructionphase,includingestimateinterpretation,problemresolution,activeinvolvementinthechangeorderprocessandassistanceinoverallaccountmanagement.BecognitiveofyourinfluenceasapositiverolemodeltotheDepartment'slessexperiencedstaffandmentorwhenpossible.

EssentialFunctions

• Thoroughlyevaluatebiddocuments(plans,specifications,soilsreportandrelateddocuments),determiningscopeandbreadthofworktobebothself-performedandsubcontracted.Evaluatechangesinbiddocumentsasnecessarywithrespecttotheimplicationstoscope,costandtheriskprofileofthepursuit.
• Coordinate,overseeandevaluatethequantitytake-offforpursuits,highlightingimportantdetailssuchasaccess,phasing,productionconstraints,magnitudesofscope,etc.
• Attendpre-bidmeetingsandsitevisitstoevaluateprojectconstraintsandtheirimplicationstothedevelopmentofaprofitablecostestimateforthepursuit.
• Identifyandcontacttherequiredsubcontractors,suppliersandserviceproviders,andrequestscopeclarificationsandquotes,ensuringsufficientcoveragewhilemitigatingallknownandpotentialscopegaps.
• Utilizehistoricalcostandproductiondatatodeveloptimelyandaccurateestimates.Identify,analyze,categorize/prioritize,evaluate,communicateandmitigatetherisksassociatedwiththepursuit.
• Tabulatetheestimatedcostanddurationforeachactivitybasedontherequirementsforlabor,equipment,materialsandsubcontractorsofeachactivityensuringthepursuitcanbecarriedoutprofitably.
• Completetheestimate,produceascheduleandotherexecutivelevelsummarydocuments,allowingenoughtimepriortosubmissionofthebid,foradetailedpeer/managementreviewofthepursuit.Ensureallassociatedactionitemshavebeenaddressedpriortofinalizingandsubmittingthebid.
• Oncebidhasbeensubmitted,compileandorganizeallbid-relateddocumentsandpricingbackupinanorderlyfashion,foreitherarchivingorforhandofftoprojectteam,ifsuccessful.
