Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates for commercial/retail construction.
• Review drawings, specs, scopes of work, and bid documents to determine requirements.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Solicit and compare subcontractor/supplier proposals for competitive bids.
• Identify scope gaps, risks, and value-engineering opportunities.
• Prepare bid packages, budgets, and estimating documentation.
• Manage high volumes of estimates to meet deadlines.
• Maintain organized estimating files and data.

A Day in the Life of the Estimator

As an Estimator, you'll spend your days reviewing drawings and bid documents, performing quantity takeoffs, and building detailed cost estimates for tenant improvements, retail build-outs, renovations, and ground-up commercial projects. You'll manage a high volume of bids at once, working closely with subcontractors, suppliers, and project managers to make sure every proposal is complete and competitive. Your accuracy and attention to detail directly help the company win the right projects and set them up for successful, profitable execution.

Responsibilities include:

• Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates for commercial and retail construction projects
• Review construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and bid documents to determine project requirements
• Perform quantity takeoffs and develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates
• Solicit, review, and compare subcontractor and supplier proposals to ensure complete, competitive coverage
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, potential risks, and value-engineering opportunities
• Prepare bid packages, proposals, budgets, and supporting estimating documentation
• Manage a high volume of estimates and bid opportunities while consistently meeting deadlines
• Maintain organized estimating files, bid records, pricing information, and subcontractor/vendor data
• Communicate with subcontractors, suppliers, project managers, and team members about project requirements and pricing
• Assist with project handoff from estimating to operations after award
• Stay current on material pricing, labor costs, subcontractor markets, and commercial construction trends

Requirements and Qualifications:

• 4+ years of estimating experience in commercial and/or retail construction
• Proven experience estimating tenant improvements, retail build-outs, renovations, ground-up construction, or similar commercial projects
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, materials, methods, and sequencing
• Experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs and preparing complete project estimates
• Experience with construction estimating and takeoff software
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard business applications
• Excellent communication skills with subcontractors, vendors, project managers, and clients
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to estimate accuracy
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and competing deadlines without sacrificing accuracy
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
