Job description

Dynalectric Company San Diego is hiring for an Electrical Estimator. The Estimator is responsible for estimating and providing management with detailed pricing for development of bid quotations and bid packages, while operating under general supervision. The role requires experience in preparing cost estimates for product manufacturing, construction projects, or services to aid management in bidding on or determining price of a product or service. The position may specialize according to particular service performed or type of product manufactured.

Responsibilities
  • Collect, calculate, and compile historical cost to estimate costs for current or future electrical projects or products.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Prepare estimates used by management for planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Perform design/build, conceptual, and budget estimates; work on multiple projects concurrently under strict deadlines.
  • Analyze blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and other documentation at various design levels to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Review design options and recommend best solutions based on cost, engineering quality, or material availability.
  • Participate in plan and estimate reviews for projects; aid in developing value engineering and alternative design concepts.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Review contract and bid documents and understand scope for project turnover.
  • Attend walk‑throughs, pre‑bid and scope clarification meetings.
  • Perform quantitative take‑off and computer entry.
  • Prepare scope letters and proposals.
  • Maintain relationships with customers, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate junior and staff resources in performing take‑offs, issuing bills of material to vendors, and obtaining subcontractor and vendor quotes.
  • Collaborate with the Preconstruction Team, Estimators, Architects, and Engineering Department.
  • Assist construction scheduler with scheduling input as required.
  • Ensure documents are centrally saved on the company’s drive within the confidential estimating folder(s); maintain electrical estimating software with updated pricing.
  • Assist project managers with take‑offs and pricing changes in work.
  • Escalate critical or sensitive issues to the Vice President of Preconstruction with recommendation for resolution.
  • Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs.
  • Perform additional assignments as required by company needs or executives.
Qualifications
  • 3‑6 years’ experience in estimating/preconstruction services or 5+ years related construction industry experience, with design/build experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor of Science in engineering or construction‑related field desirable.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, construction industry, materials, market conditions, trade practices, and contract documentation.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and city regulations and guidelines.
Computer Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Familiarity with Accubid and other electrical, technical, or construction programs.
  • Experience with project management/document control software.
  • Familiarity with construction/financial software packages.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Regular sitting, walking, reaching, and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires commuting to field locations for take‑offs and job walks. Work may involve exposure to outdoor conditions, dust, fumes, chemicals, and electrical shock hazards. The employee should be comfortable with long periods in front of a computer and with site travel.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation Range: $115,000 – $130,000.

Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage; health savings and flexible spending accounts; life insurance; disability; a 401(k) savings plan; College Coaching; and employee assistance program.
