Job summary

Commercial Contracting Corporation in Auburn Hills, MI seeks an Estimator to work with architects, engineers, and subs to develop detailed construction estimates for projects from $25k to $50M USD. Responsibilities

• Bid Administration: Prepare subcontractor bid packages and transmit bid documents to subs.
• Ensure proper coverage from subcontractors on Bid Day and obtain additional bids.
• Coordinate with Estimating Support and develop RFIs/clarifications.
• Create bid lists and include value-engineering ideas on every bid.
• Review Bid Forms and supporting docs for completeness prior to submission.
• Turnover: properly hand off bid docs and sub buyout information to Project Management.
• Subcontractor Award and Management: qualify new subs and secure timely awards and schedule commitment.

Job Description

POSITION: ESTIMATOR

LOCATION: Auburn Hills, MI

OBJECTIVE

The function of the Estimator position within our Estimating and Pre-Construction team is to work with architects, engineers, specialty consultants, and sub-contractors to establish detailed construction estimates. Project sizes typically range from $25,000 to $50,000,000 USD and may include a combination of construction management, general contractor, and design/build type projects. Some travel may be included in the role.

Key Accountabilities

• Bid Administration

Bid Administration

• Prepare subcontractor bid packages.
• Transmit bid documents, addenda, and other pertinent bid information to subcontractors.
• Ensure proper coverage from subcontractors on Bid Day.
• Contact supply houses to obtain additional subcontractor bids.
• Utilize creativity and resourcefulness to gain better pricing from subcontractors.
• Manage the overall bid/proposal submittal process to ensure the owner’s requirements and deadlines are met – no exceptions.
• Review and approve Bid Form and supporting documents on Bid Day for completeness and accuracy prior to submission to owner/owner representative (i.e. last set of eyes).
• Work and coordinate with Estimating Support.
• Prepare subcontracting MBE / Diversity Plan if required.
• Comply with all CCC ISO Standard procedures.

Project Knowledge

• Review bid requirements thoroughly and ask follow-up questions as needed.
• Thorough understanding of the scope for specific trades assigned.
• Develop RFIs and clarifications and ensure adequate subcontractor coverage.
• Perform a comprehensive "Bid Day Analysis” and scoping of specific assigned trades.
• Create bid lists that fit the scope of the job, ensuring that we have the right subs for the project.
• Include value-engineering ideas on every bid.

Project Turnover

• Properly turn over bid documents and sub buyout information to Project Management in a timely manner.
• Review documents with the Project Management team and highlight areas of concern.
• Review job cost with the Project Management team and highlight any subs/material vendors that still need to be awarded.
• Complete project kick-off form to ensure compliance.

Subcontractor Award and Management

• Thoroughly check requirements to buy the proper scope.
• Seek & qualify new subcontractors.
• Award subs in a timely manner to ensure the release of materials.
• Ensure that subs commit to the project schedule.
• Solicit and maintain communication with subcontractors and vendors.

Core Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
• Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills are required.
• Design/Build, General Contractor, Construction Management project delivery experience.
• Travel may be required.
