Job summary

Commercial Contracting Corporation in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking an Estimator to join the Estimating and Pre-Construction team. This role collaborates with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to develop detailed construction estimates for varied project scopes.

Projects range from $25,000 to $50,000,000 USD, including construction management, general contracting, and design/build approaches. Some travel may be required to secure accurate bids and coordinate with subs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
• Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare subcontractor bid packages and transmit bid documents, addenda, and other pertinent bid information to subcontractors.
• Ensure proper coverage from subcontractors on Bid Day.
• Review and approve Bid Form and supporting documents on Bid Day for completeness and accuracy prior to submission to owner/owner representative.
• Coordinate with Estimating Support and prepare subcontracting MBE / Diversity Plan if required.

Objective

The function of the Estimator position within our Estimating and Pre‑Construction team is to work with architects, engineers, specialty consultants, and sub‑contractors to establish detailed construction estimates. Project sizes typically range from $25,000 to $50,000,000 USD and may include a combination of construction management, general contractor, and design/build type projects. Some travel may be included in the role.

Key Accountabilities

Bid Administration

• Prepare subcontractor bid packages.
• Transmit bid documents, addenda, and other pertinent bid information to subcontractors.
• Ensure proper coverage from subcontractors on Bid Day.
• Contact supply houses to obtain additional subcontractor bids.
• Utilize creativity and resourcefulness to gain better pricing from subcontractors.
• Manage the overall bid/proposal submittal process to ensure the owner’s requirements and deadlines are met – no exceptions.
• Review and approve Bid Form and supporting documents on Bid Day for completeness and accuracy prior to submission to owner/owner representative.
• Work and coordinate with Estimating Support.
• Prepare subcontracting MBE / Diversity Plan if required.
• Comply with all CCC ISO Standard procedures.

Project Knowledge

• Review bid requirements thoroughly and ask follow‑up questions as needed.
• Thorough understanding of the scope for specific trades assigned.
• Develop RFIs and clarifications and ensure adequate subcontractor coverage.
• Perform a comprehensive "Bid Day Analysis" and scope of specific assigned trades.
• Create bid lists that fit the scope of the job, ensuring that we have the right subs for the project.
• Include value‑engineering ideas on every bid.

Project Turnover

• Properly turn over bid documents and sub buyout information to Project Management in a timely manner.
• Review documents with the Project Management team and highlight areas of concern.
• Review job cost with the Project Management team and highlight any subs/material vendors that still need to be awarded.
• Complete project kick‑off form to ensure compliance.

Subcontractor Award and Management

• Thoroughly check requirements to buy the proper scope.
• Seek & qualify new subcontractors.
• Award subs in a timely manner to ensure the release of materials.
• Ensure that subs commit to the project schedule.
• Solicit and maintain communication with subcontractors and vendors.

Core Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
• Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills are required.
• Design/Build, General Contractor, Construction Management project delivery experience.
• Travel may be required.
