Role Description

The Estimator role at A.L. Grading is a full-time, on-site position based in Sugar Hill, GA. The Estimator is responsible for reviewing project plans and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, and preparing detailed cost estimates for earthwork, grading, and related site development activities. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing bid documents, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotes, developing bid proposals, and coordinating project pricing with project managers and leadership. The role also involves visiting job sites as needed, verifying field conditions, identifying potential risks, and recommending cost-effective solutions that align with safety, schedule, and quality standards. The Estimator collaborates closely with operations, accounting, and procurement teams to support accurate budgeting, forecasting, and project execution.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction or civil sitework estimating, with strong skills in quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and bid preparation.
• Proficiency with estimating software (AGTEK), spreadsheet tools (e.g., Excel), and the ability to interpret engineering drawings, site plans, and specifications.
• Knowledge of earthwork, grading, utilities, and general site development practices, including production rates, equipment capabilities, and material costs.
• Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with project managers, field teams, vendors, and clients.
• Ability to work on-site in Sugar Hill, GA, including occasional travel to project locations for site walks and verification.
• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Familiarity with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices; experience in grading or infrastructure projects is a plus.
