Job summary

Intek Plastics is seeking an Estimating Engineer to translate RFQs, drawings, and CAD data into accurate part and tooling cost models. You will partner with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Tooling to gather inputs and drive competitive quotes.

You’ll maintain estimating databases, track quote status, and support design changes with clear, timely revisions. A strong technical background in tooling/plastics is essential.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years in manufacturing within a technical capacity.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Strong analytical problem solver with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience with ERP or computerized manufacturing systems.
• Comfort with CAD-based drafting/design tools.
• Background in tooling, plastics development, machining, or injection molding.

Responsibilities

• Extract scope from RFQs, prints, specs, and CAD models to prepare quotations.
• Build part and tooling cost models using estimating procedures.
• Analyze material, labor, tooling, and secondary operations for precise pricing.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Tooling.
• Maintain quote files, costing worksheets, and supporting documentation.
• Assess manufacturability and highlight cost/lead-time impacts.
• Solicit and coordinate supplier quotations for tooling and materials.
• Revise quotes based on design updates or customer feedback.
• Track activity and report status to leadership.
• Drive continuous improvement in estimating processes and cost accuracy.
• Serve as primary technical resource for the estimation team.

As an Estimating Engineer within Intek Plastics, you’ll partner with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Tooling to translate RFQs, drawings, and CAD into accurate part and tooling cost models.A day in the roleMorning might start with a new RFQ: you download files, review specs and CAD, and map out material, labor, tooling, and secondary operations. By midday, you’re confirming supplier quotes for tooling and materials, checking manufacturability, and noting factors that could influence cost or lead time. You’ll capture everything in estimating databases, update quote trackers, and brief leaders on status.
