Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace in Morris Plains, NJ, is seeking an Espresso Lead Clerk to guide our espresso department and deliver friendly, attentive service. This hands-on role prepares quality beverages and supports daily operations, training clerks, and maintaining a clean, welcoming area.

You will lead by example, greet customers, answer questions about menu items, and ensure beverage quality, accuracy, and speed during busy periods. Flexibility to work weekends and holidays is expected.

Qualifications

• Prior barista or espresso preparation experience required.
• Previous lead or training experience preferred.
• Knowledge of espresso equipment, milk steaming, and beverage preparation techniques.
• Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to guide team members and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to quality, cleanliness, and food safety.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform routine stocking and cleaning tasks.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace is seeking an experienced Espresso Lead Clerk to help lead our espresso department and deliver friendly, attentive service. This hands-on role prepares quality coffee and espresso beverages while supporting daily operations, guiding team members, and maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming department. The ideal candidate enjoys working with customers, takes pride in beverage preparation, and leads by example in a busy retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve espresso, cappuccino, latte, coffee, and other beverages according to company recipes and presentation standards.
• Support the Department Manager with daily operations and help coordinate team assignments.
• Lead by example and assist with training clerks on beverage preparation, customer service, equipment use, and sanitation.
• Greet customers, answer menu questions, and fulfill orders accurately and efficiently.
• Monitor beverage quality, consistency, and service throughout the shift.
• Operate the cash register and process transactions accurately.
• Monitor inventory and communicate ordering needs for coffee, milk, syrups, cups, and other supplies.
• Receive, organize, rotate, and restock products to maintain freshness and availability.
• Clean and sanitize espresso machines, grinders, counters, utensils, and work areas.
• Follow food safety procedures, including proper milk storage and safe food handling.
• Identify equipment concerns and promptly report maintenance needs to management.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures and other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

1. Most of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. There may be a need to frequently position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping.
2. May require lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance.
3. Usually in a comfortable indoor environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. There could be exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and/or coolers.
