Job summary

Essex County Schools of Technology is seeking a Paraprofessional (ESL) for a long-term replacement at Newark Tech for the 2026-27 school year. Under ESL Teacher supervision, you will support English language learners by aiding in language development and creating an inclusive classroom environment.

The role requires a high school diploma (associate degree preferred), NJ paraprofessional certification or eligibility, and experience with students in educational settings.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• NJ Department of Education-approved Paraprofessional Certification or ability to obtain.
• Experience working with children in an educational setting.
• Knowledge of effective instructional strategies and classroom management techniques.

Responsibilities

• Support Instruction: Assists the ESL Teacher in implementing lesson plans and classroom activities.
• Individual and Group Support: Provides one-on-one or small group instruction to ELLs.
• Language Development: Helps students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.
• Classroom Management: Maintains a structured and supportive classroom environment.
• Adapt Materials: Modifies instructional materials to meet linguistic needs.
• Cultural Sensitivity: Promotes cultural awareness and sensitivity for students’ adjustment.
• Supervise Activities: Supervises students during non-instructional times such as recess and lunch.
• Data Collection: Collects data on student performance to monitor progress.
• Communication: Collaborates with teachers and families regarding student progress.
• Assistive Technology: Supports use of technology to enhance language learning.
• Behavior Support: Implements positive behavior strategies.
• Professional Development: Engages in ongoing ESL education development.
• Confidentiality: Maintains student confidentiality.
• Health and Safety: Follows school protocols during emergencies.
• Support Activities: Assists with field trips and school events.
