Job summary

The School District of DeSoto County seeks a Teacher Assistant - Exceptional Student Education at Nocatee Elementary School in Arcadia, Florida. You will support instructional activities for students with disabilities under the guidance of licensed teachers, assist with classroom tasks, and help implement accommodations and IEP goals.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, up to 60 college credits or an associate's degree, and a satisfactory background check.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must meet one of: two years of college (60 credits); or an Associate's or higher degree; or ParaPro knowledge.
• Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in preparing materials, aids, bulletin boards and equipment for direct instruction.
• Schedule space for specialized instructional programs and arrange equipment and desks.
• Assist in modifying curriculum to align with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
• Provide line-of-sight supervision and one-on-one support to students as needed.
• Serve as substitute teacher when necessary.
• Assist in monitoring IEP goals and transport/assist students with disabilities as required.
• Assist with assessment tasks, test proctoring, and data collection for progress reporting.
• Lead small group activities under teacher direction and employ effective classroom management.
