Job summary

Vertiv's Electrical Reliability Services (ERS) in Boise, ID, is seeking a Field Engineer – Electrical Testing with NETA Level III/IV certification. You will perform acceptance, commissioning, and maintenance tests on high- and medium-voltage systems up to 500 kV, analyze results, mentor junior technicians, and lead multi-discipline teams on regional and national projects.

Qualifications

  • NETA Level III or IV Certification (current and in good standing).
  • 7+ years hands-on electrical testing experience in medium/high voltage environments.
  • Expert knowledge of NETA MTS and ATS standards.
  • Proficiency with test equipment: Doble, Megger, Omicron, Dranetz, SKF and equivalents.
  • Strong understanding of protective relay schemes and coordination.
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, and P&IDs.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Willingness to travel regionally (up to 75%).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct power system studies including short circuit, coordination, arc flash, and power quality analysis.
  • Test and calibrate protective relays (electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based).
  • Perform insulation resistance, power factor, and contact resistance testing on transformers, switchgear, cables, and circuit breakers.
  • Interpret and analyze test results; author comprehensive engineering reports with findings and recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical system failures under time-critical conditions.
  • Mentor and train Level I/II technicians in the field.
  • Serve as technical lead on multi-discipline project teams.
  • Maintain compliance with NETA MTS/ATS standards, NFPA 70E, and OSHA safety requirements.

What You'll Do

What you’ll bring?
Required
  • NETA Level III or Level IV Certification (current and in good standing)

  • NICET Certification
  • Experience with SF6 breaker maintenance
  • Power systems engineering or related degree
  • Prior leadership/supervisory experience on testing projects
  • Experience in data center, utility, or industrial critical power environments
