Job summary

North Coast Container in Chicago, IL seeks an Environmental, Regulatory & Safety Specialist to keep people safe and operations compliant on the plant floor and in the office.

You will report to the Plant Manager and influence ERS programs across plants, performing risk analyses, incident investigations, and plant audits for compliance with environmental, health and safety requirements in steel manufacturing and recycling.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience in environmental field.
• At least 2 years of manufacturing experience.
• Working knowledge of Illinois environmental, health and safety regulations.
• Experience with incident investigations and root cause analysis.
• Strong communication and collaborative, hands-on style.
• Proficiency with PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
• Willingness to travel to other plants.
• Nice-to-have: Lean, Six Sigma or Toyota Production System exposure.

Responsibilities

• Spot hazards and analyze risks on the plant floor and in the office.
• Lead incident investigations and near-miss reviews with root-cause focus.
• Lead plant-level audits to verify safety and environmental practices.
• Own regulatory compliance for environmental, health and safety requirements.
• Prepare and submit environmental and safety reports and permits.
• Design and improve ERS policies, tools and training across the company.
• Explain requirements clearly to all levels of the organization.
