Job summary

Rock Creek Elementary is seeking a dedicated ERC Paraprofessional to support students with diverse learning needs in the Exceptional Resource Classroom. You will collaborate with teachers, students and families to foster an inclusive, supportive environment and ensure access to resources for academic and social success.

You will assist with IEPs, supervise classroom activities, and help prepare instructional materials.

Qualifications

• Requires two years of college or an AA degree or ParaPro assessment.
• Experience with students with special needs or in a school setting preferred.
• Knowledge of special education practices and behavior management.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate with families.
• Patience, empathy and a desire to support student learning and development.
• Proficiency with basic computer skills and educational technology.
• Must pass a background check and required training.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

This position plays a critical role in supporting students with diverse learning needs within the Exceptional Resource Classroom. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers, students, and families to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment, ensuring that all students have access to the resources and assistance they need to succeed academically and socially.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
• Provide direct support to students in the classroom, helping them with academic tasks, social skills, and behavioral management.
• Facilitate small group instruction and provide one-on-one assistance to students as needed.
• Monitor student progress and behavior, reporting any concerns to the classroom teacher or special education coordinator.
• Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
• Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom activities.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to special education.
• Support students during transitions between classes, lunch, and other school activities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or higher preferred. Requires two years of college, an AA degree, or successfully completed the ParaPro Assessment (Praxis Exam).
• Experience working with students with special needs or in a school setting is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of special education practices, behavior management techniques, and instructional strategies.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, teachers, and families.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support the learning and development of students.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in basic computer skills and familiarity with educational technology.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Must pass a background check and any required training prior to employment.
