Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Spring, TX is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department. You will triage emergency cases, assist the DVM, perform diagnostics, ICU/inpatient care, and handle client communication.

Qualifications

• Provide nursing care to emergency patients according to hospital standards.
• Triage emergency cases and assist the DVM with treatment plans.
• Understand classifications of commonly used medications and monitor responses.
• Administer medications and monitor duration and routes.
• Perform phlebotomy and assist with physical exams.
• Maintain familiarity with anesthesia/monitoring equipment and ASA I/II patients.
• Stay current with RECOVER CPR guidelines and roles.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
