Job summary

Alameda Health System is seeking a part-time Unit Clerk for the Emergency Department at San Leandro Hospital. This internal-only role supports patient care by handling clerical tasks and coordinating information flow within the ED. Evening shifts are offered, with a 0.6 FTE status.

Responsibilities include transcribing physician orders, preparing charts, notifying staff, and maintaining logs and charges with accuracy. Previous unit secretary experience and BLS certification are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum one year previous unit secretary experience.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

• Transcribes physician orders and relays them to the nurse as per policy.
• Prepares and assembles admission charts; maintains chart flow and confidentiality.
• Notifies RN and admitting dept. of arrival; communicates with physicians when appropriate.
• Monitors EMS communications and routes reports to departments.
• Maintains forms, mail, ED log book and culture reports; processes ED documentation.
• Completes patient charges and discharge duties prior to departure.
