Job summary

UNC Health Care in Clayton, NC seeks a Nursing Assistant I to support patient care in the Emergency Department, including triage, minor treatment and acute areas. This per diem role emphasizes patient safety, accurate documentation and teamwork within a Chest Pain Accredited facility.

You will take vital signs, record intake/output, assist with sterile procedures, and help with minor orthopedic splinting under supervision, contributing to high-quality care across shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; higher-level degree may satisfy this requirement.
• Listing as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina DHHS or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Prefer three to six months relevant experience and/or training.
• Language skills: ability to read and interpret safety rules, procedures and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Takes and records vital signs every 2 hours or as directed.
• Records intake and outputs as directed.
• Performs urinary catheterization or in-and-out Foley procedures and documents accordingly.
• Sets up area for sterile procedures and documents accordingly.
• Performs minor orthopedic splinting under physician assistant direction.
• Notifies RN of any skin breakdowns and documents accordingly.
• Removes IV catheters and documents accordingly.
• Transcribes and transmits physician orders and pertinent information.
• Work across triage, minor treatment and acute areas following department policy.
