Job summary

Gila Regional Medical Center is seeking an ER Tech I to support the emergency department team. Duties include patient care, vital signs, specimen collection, charting in Meditech, and aiding with transfers and admissions under RN supervision.

Responsibilities emphasize communication with RNs, desk management, and maintaining supplies, with emphasis on safety and quality care in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must possess one of: New Mexico CNA certification, Level I and II nursing courses, or two years experience as a Medical Assistant.
• BLS (AHA) required on hire date.
• PEARS within 3 months from hire date.
• GRMC approved EKG course within 3 months of hire and annually.
• 1 year experience in a Medical Field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists with patient care as needed.
• Obtains and charts patient vital signs.
• Prepares patients for procedures as directed by the RN.
• Collects specimens for lab assessment (urine, stool, blood).
• Handles laboratory specimens (blood, urine, other fluids).
• Places ID and allergy bands with double identifiers.
• Assists in applying/removing patient restraints and documents accordingly.
• Assists patient ambulation and transfer.
• Completes all patient care documentation timely.
• Assists patients with daily routines (dressing, toileting).
• Splints extremities and applies wraps or immobilizers after competency.
• Provides wound care and dressing changes under RN guidance.
• Cleans and stores equipment, maintains stock.
• Answers phone and nurse call system.
• Escorts patients/visitors in/out of hospital.
• Assists nurses and providers with procedures.
• Provides information and emotional support to patients and family.
• Communicates changes in condition and vital signs to RNs.
• Prepares patient care areas and maintains clean environment.
• Attends departmental meetings and cross-training.
• Performs QC on glucose monitor daily.
• Ensures printers have paper and cartridges.
• Manages ER desk, phone, and beeper system.
• Reports gunshot and dog bite incidents per protocol.
• Coordinates pediatric lab draws with Lab and RN.
• Manages ER patient board and order transfers.
• Transfers orders to charts timely and checks admissions.
• Prepares ER documentation for transport and discharge.
