Job summary

UTMB Health in Webster, Texas is seeking a patient care/ER technician to provide intermediate technical assistance and supportive patient care in the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities include vital signs, mobility, hygiene, safety, and assisting with examinations and procedures. Required qualifications include EMT, nursing study with clinical concepts, EMS certification, or ER Tech CBO training within six months of employment.

Qualifications

• Completion of one of the listed technical programs with one year of related experience.
• EMT program or enrollment in a recognized School of Nursing with first semester complete.
• Active state EMS certification in good standing at hire date.
• Military medical training (Army medic, Navy corpsman, Air Force medic, Coast Guard corpsman).
• Completion of ER Tech CBO Tool within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Collects, reports and documents data including vital signs, height/weight, intake/output, pulse oximetry, and specimens.
• Performs and reports Point of Care Testing.
• Assists with patient activities and care as indicated by plan of care.
• Provides for patients’ hygiene and comfort, including suctioning, wound care, elimination, catheter care, and ostomy care.
• Assists with feeding, mobility, admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Sets up and supports examinations, procedures, and other treatments.
• Maintains patient safety and privacy, and supports infection control measures.
• Communicates clearly with nurses and multidisciplinary team; notes equipment issues.
• Maintains clean, safe environments and supports quality improvement initiatives.
