Job summary

UPMC is hiring a Patient Care Technician for our Emergency Department at the Community Osteopathic campus in Harrisburg. This casual role involves 36 hours over six weeks with rotating weekends and holidays, working on-site in a fast-paced hospital setting.

You will provide direct patient care, assist with ADLs, monitor vital signs, perform selected nursing tasks, and document in the medical record, under RN supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1 year of general healthcare experience, OR 6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days.
• EMT or Paramedic program enrollment or related healthcare training may be preferred.
• Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class and eRecord training.
• CPR certification per AHA standards within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient care including assisting with procedures and activities of daily living.
• Assists with nursing core responsibilities and at least four BU tasks (e.g., phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, dressing, catheter removal).
• Communicates with health care team and reports changes in patient status.
• Documents in the medical record following established procedures.
• Maintains safety and supports department projects and quality initiatives.
