Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with coding certification program.
• Associates Degree in Health Information Management preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of ER coding experience in hospital facility.
• ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, E/M experience required.
• Coding credential required from AHIMA/AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC).

Responsibilities

• Reviews emergency department medical records to assign ICD, CPT, HCPCS codes accurately.
• Meets and exceeds productivity and quality standards.
• Reviews physician documentation and performs audits to determine accuracy as needed.
• Updates charges (as needed) and processes the records in a timely manner.
• Reviews tasks and corrects codes as needed.
• Provides training to fellow staff to improve coding outcomes.
