Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Reno, NV is seeking experienced Licensed Veterinary Technicians for our fast-paced Emergency department.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia and triage emergencies, using monitoring equipment and radiography to support patient care while communicating clearly with clients.

Qualifications

• Must be a licensed veterinary technician (LVT) in the U.S.
• Experience in emergency medicine is preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia using monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergencies and obtain vitals (temp, HR, RR, BP).
• Perform digital radiography with correct patient positioning.
• Understand normal vital sign ranges and alert Veterinarian.
• Interpret blood pressure and vital signs and notify changes.
• Identify arrest risk and initiate CPR.
• Perform phlebotomy and place IV catheters.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central lines.
• Mentor and train coworkers.
• Show patience and empathy addressing client concerns.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Licensed Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency department in Reno, NV!

LVT Pay: $22.25 - $42.77/Hr

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through the Kahuna leveling system

Shift: 12pm-12am -1 weekend shift required per week

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

• Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = $3.50 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $3.50 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.00 Shift Differential

As An Emergency Veterinary Technician, You Will

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
