Job summary

Medical Center SE Texas Port Arthur is seeking a registered nurse to manage and coordinate patient care on a designated unit per hospital policies. The role focuses on directing nursing activities, advocating for patients, and ensuring quality outcomes through clinical decisions and teamwork.

The position includes serving as shift Charge Nurse when required, delegating tasks, and supervising staff while maintaining a culture of safety and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience in Medical/Surgical/ICU/ED/OR/PACU/OPS/NICU preferred.
• Current RN licensure in the state of Texas.
• Certification per unit specific competency (e.g. BLS, CPI).
• NIHS Scale, stroke education, cardiac education and ortho education per department competencies.

Responsibilities

• Direct, plan and organize nursing activities on the unit for an assigned shift.
• Deliver skilled patient care through the nursing process per policies and procedures.
• Coordinate care among patient/family, medicine, nursing, and other teams.
• Act as patient advocate and maintain current nursing practice standards.
• Make patient care assignments based on acuity and staffing competencies.
• Promote a patient-centered culture of safety, teamwork and communication.
• Evaluate and modify patient care assignments as needed.
• Demonstrate clinical reasoning and reprioritize unit needs as warranted.
• Orient, evaluate and supervise agency staff and new nurses.
• Communicate changes in patient condition and care results to the team.
• Delegate tasks to ensure patient safety and activate Chain of Command as needed.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
