Job summary

Baton Rouge General is seeking a compassionate, team-oriented medical assistant to support the Emergency Department. You will work under a registered nurse to deliver high-quality patient care and assist in assessments and treatments.

Responsibilities include direct patient care, monitoring, documentation, and collaboration with physicians to ensure safe, efficient care. A strong emphasis on safety and patient comfort is required.

Qualifications

• Must complete a medical assistant, nursing assistant, phlebotomy, or EMT course.
• Certified Medical Assistant or 6 months of acute care ED experience or First Responder.
• CNA/EMT certifications or nursing student with RN fundamentals are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse to assist in delivering quality care in the Emergency Department.
• Assist in patient assessment and treatment under RN or physician direction.
• Provide direct care such as dressings, monitoring, catheterizations, and prepping skin for procedures.
• Support specimen collection and transport adhering to universal precautions.
• Aid in patient admission, discharge, and transfers.
• Assist patients with toileting needs and accompany them for procedures as needed.
• Keep patients and families informed throughout treatment.
• Accurately document care and assist in data collection for nursing plans.
• Record vital signs and intake/output.
• Monitor and restock supplies and emergency equipment per standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitize equipment and patient areas.
• Adhere to safety, infection control, and environmental procedures.
• Provide support in managing psychiatric safety, including crisis de-escalation.
